KAI-YI CHANG, Chairman of HYES, said, “Taiwan’s manufacturing industry is standing at a critical crossroads for energy efficiency and carbon management.” Facing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Taiwan’s domestic carbon fee system, supply chain audits, and ongoing electricity price adjustments, manufacturers are accelerating the adoption of energy-saving and sustainability solutions. However, one major challenge has remained in the energy-saving market for years: the lack of transparent and verifiable energy-saving results.

With “Precision Energy Efficiency” at its core, HYES combines power quality improvement, energy baseline establishment, third-party verification, and sustainability data management to provide an energy-saving pathway that aligns with government policies, production operations, and ESG objectives.

KAI-YI CHANG points out that the fundamental approach to industrial energy efficiency is shifting from equipment replacement to power quality management. Over the past decade, industries have generally viewed energy saving as an engineering effort focused on replacing equipment and reducing power consumption. However, as opportunities for further equipment efficiency improvements become increasingly limited, power quality has emerged as a new breakthrough for energy efficiency.

HYES’s reactance filtering technology can reduce higher-order harmonics, voltage surges, and three-phase imbalance, helping stabilize the power supply. When motors, variable-frequency drives, and other equipment operate under optimal conditions, hidden energy losses can be effectively reduced. This also shifts energy efficiency from an “equipment-oriented” approach to a “system-oriented” approach. Several companies have achieved energy-saving rates of 12% to 18% after implementation, with results verified by SGS and ICAS according to IPMVP standards, providing important supporting evidence for supply chain audits.

Energy Baselines and Data Governance Become Core Capabilities

As sustainability regulations become increasingly stringent, companies need not only to reduce electricity consumption but also to “prove how they achieved those savings.” HYES emphasizes that the energy baseline is the foundation of all energy-saving initiatives. Only with an accurate baseline model can companies establish consistency across energy efficiency improvements, carbon accounting, and SBTi pathway planning.

When helping companies establish energy baselines, the HYES team not only collects electricity consumption data but also conducts on-site assessments to understand production dynamics. Factors such as defective products and abnormal shutdowns are identified and excluded to improve baseline accuracy, making energy-saving results more credible and reliable.

From Energy Efficiency to Carbon Management: An End-to-End Sustainability Solution

HYES integrates services including EMS/BMS, solar power installation, green electricity procurement, T-REC, carbon accounting, and government subsidy applications, enabling companies to pursue energy efficiency and carbon reduction simultaneously while minimizing costs.

With Taiwan’s carbon fee system approaching implementation, many companies are concerned about potential increases in future operating costs.

HYES believes that by establishing a solid foundation in energy efficiency, carbon management, and energy management platforms today, companies can gain greater flexibility in responding to future carbon fees and customer audits.

KAI-YI CHANG emphasizes that the next stage of industrial energy efficiency will no longer be about competing on equipment, but about competing on “traceable energy data capabilities.” Through verifiable energy-saving results, companies can truly reduce costs while strengthening their competitive advantage within sustainable supply chains.
